Unconventional is a word used to describe something which is unusual, out of the ordinary and often a little bit daring. Unconventional people are comfortable breaking with tradition and don't behave in a way that others expect them to.

Grace Jones gave an unusual and very unconventional performance at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert this week.

Grace, who at the age of sixty-four is old enough to be a granny (see yesterday's word of the day) bounced on stage dressed like a superhero, and hula-hooped her way through one of her greatest hits to the amazement of people who had turned up to watch.

Should she have stuck to wearing a more conventional outfit for the occasion? What do you think? :-)
