A carnival is a large, organised street party and procession.

Carnivals are popular events that are held all over the world to celebrate the heritage and culture of communities and other groups of people. People wear elaborate and colourful costumes, sing and dance in the street, and take part in organised parades and other events to mark the celebrations.

The Notting Hill Carnival, which took place this week, is one of the most famous carnivals in the world. Watch this video about the Notting Hill Carnival, and then click on the link below to do a reading, listening and vocabulary quiz and test your wordpower.
